As you set your mind on your true identity
in Christ, and as you live like Christ is expressing His life through you to
accomplish His will on earth, ask yourself: can you become more righteous than
righteous? More forgiven than forgiven? More accepted by God than accepted?
Holier than holy? Better seated in the heavenlies than seated in the
heavenlies? Absurd.
You can’t get more of any of those awesome
characteristics. First John 4:17 says, “As [Christ] is, so also are we in this
world”; 1 Corinthians 3:17 says, “For the temple of God is holy, and that is
what you are.” Your spiritual nature is Christlike. You are holy! “For in Him all
the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form, and in Him you have been made
complete” (Colossians 2:9-10). You are complete! How can you improve on
perfect? As such, you have the wonderful opportunity to cooperate with Christ
to let Him express His holy life through you as opposed to offering your
“members ... to [the power of] sin as instruments of unrighteousness” (Romans
6:13).
